Nestled in the green pre-Aspromonte foothills above Reggio Calabria, the Ecomuseum of Silk and Rural Traditions in Ortì welcomes visitors into a vibrant world of craft and heritage. The museum grows from the vision of Rosa Furfari, who began her textile work in a modest rural workshop. Over the years, her family expanded that vision and transformed it into a place where the past and the present meet with intention and clarity.

Antique looms, spindles and a rare semi-industrial plissé machine stand beside silk braids, damasks and elegant bridal gowns. Instead of appearing as isolated artefacts, these elements work together to explain how mulberry trees, silkworms and rural labour shaped daily life in the region. Consequently, the museum forms a natural bridge between landscape and craftsmanship, showing how nature and human skill evolved side by side.

In addition, the museum embraces a strong educational mission. Through workshops on natural dyeing, weaving and sericulture, visitors of all ages learn traditional techniques directly from expert artisans.
