A cathedral of air and memory rising where the Ionian wind meets ancient whispers.
A Transparent Temple: Where Classical Language Meets Modern Contemplation
Nestled on the scenic Falcomatà promenade in Reggio Calabria, Opera by Edoardo Tresoldi is a masterful fusion of history, art, and environment. Opened in September 2018, this awe-inspiring installation stretches across a vast 2,500-square-meter park, featuring 46 towering wire mesh columns that soar up to eight meters high. These ethereal columns evoke classical architectural grandeur while embracing a modern, transparent design — inviting visitors to experience both presence and absence in perfect harmony.
Commissioned by the Municipality of Reggio Calabria and supported by the “Patto per lo Sviluppo” initiative, Opera has quickly become a cultural landmark on the Ionian coast. It reflects the city’s rich historical identity and the unique relationship between human beings and their surroundings. Here, the open-air structure becomes a “mental agora,” a dynamic sensory space where light, shadow, and perspective shift with the passing hours, connecting sea, sky, and urban life in an immersive embrace.
More than just a visual marvel, Opera encourages contemplation and dialogue, inviting travelers and locals alike to explore their place within this stunning landscape. Edoardo Tresoldi’s signature technique—blending solid form with transparent absence—creates an ever-changing environment that celebrates both memory and innovation. This installation stands as one of Italy’s premier examples of contemporary public art, further enriching Reggio Calabria’s cultural tapestry.
