Waterfront Reggio Calabria

A Symbol of Urban Renaissance, Where Reggio’s Soul Meets the Sea

In Reggio Calabria, where the Ionian breeze carries centuries of stories, the Reghium Waterfront emerges as a bold yet harmonious union between modern architecture and the ancestral rhythm of the sea. Conceived through the PON METRO 2014–2020 development fund, this sweeping promenade has transformed a forgotten coastline into a luminous urban stage—a space that reflects both innovation and identity.

The “Linear Integrated Garden” reconnects the Porto area to the historic Lungomare, flowing naturally with the coastal landscape. It is more than a path—it is a living, breathing corridor where past and future walk side by side. The project extends its roots into Pineta Zerbi, a cherished green sanctuary, where new arboreal lines block noise and pollution, making space for serenity and silence.

Throughout the waterfront, over 180 LED lights softly illuminate walkways, creating a glowing thread that invites evening strolls, morning jogs, or contemplative moments by the sea. The inclusion of pedestrian and cycle paths, plus photovoltaic-covered parking areas and an intermodal terminal, speaks to a sustainable vision. The architecture of the Terminal, open to both city and sea, is a poetic gesture of inclusivity—its curved form welcoming every traveler, every citizen, every visitor.

Thoughtfully designed for universal accessibility, including multisensory guidance systems, the Waterfront is a place for everyone. Monumental stairs link old piazzas to new ones, bridging time and space. Each square, each pathway, each shaded bench offers a new perspective on Reggio’s evolving soul.
